What do you get when you cross a river guide with a business professor? In the 1970s, NRS founder Bill Parks repurposed his ink-stained Oxford shirts for sun protection in the outdoors, becoming an unlikely OG of “river chic.” For decades, guides and recreational rafters adopted street clothes to the river, from Bill’s Oxfords to cutoff jeans and thrift-store cowboy shirts. And the wardrobe didn’t change when they went on a side hike, grabbed the fly rod, or walked into the tavern. Then the NRS Guide Shirt came along: a quick-drying, sun-protective update to classic river attire made with performance materials. It soon became the uniform of river guides—literally, for many commercial outfitters—and the foundation of a complete NRS lifestyle assortment that takes you from the river to town, to the mountains and back.
