NRS Celebrates 50th Anniversary with Block Party and Sale

Saturday, August 27 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

MOSCOW, Idaho — Since 1972, Northwest River Supplies (NRS) has helped people around the world escape the landlocked life and discover the rewards of life on the water, but it all started right here in north-central Idaho. After 50 years on the water, NRS is inviting its friends and customers in the region to celebrate with a block party and sale at their Moscow headquarters.

Founded in 1972 by Bill Parks, who joined the faculty at the University of Idaho College of Business and Economics in the same year, NRS has grown from a mail-order business operated in Parks’ garage to a global outdoor sporting goods brand and prominent employer on the Palouse.

“We never would have made it 50 years, or become the company we are today, without our amazing customers and community,” says Mark Deming, NRS Chief Marketing Officer. “This event is a big thank you to the people who have supported us all these years.”

According to Deming, Parks set out to build the kind of company he would want to buy from, and the kind of company he would want to work for. That approach has helped create loyal, long-lasting relationships with customers, employees and business partners in the Northwest and beyond.

“Bill likes to say that it’s the people who make NRS successful,” says Deming. “After five decades on the Palouse, there are a lot of people in the region to thank. We hope they’ll all join us for the party.”

Hosted at NRS headquarters at 1638 South Blaine Street in Moscow, the celebration will feature free barbecue, live music, building tours, film screenings, and special discounts for shoppers. The family-friendly event will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with food and live music from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
