Product Details
The NRS Co-Pilot knife brings tactical rescue to every river run. The compact design and lie-flat sheath pair seamlessly with your PFD. Emergency-ready features such as smooth and scalloped cutting edges and blunt safety tip are trusted by professional responders, SAR response teams and recreational boaters worldwide.
- An excellent knife for freshwater boating and rescue. For saltwater use, choose the NRS Titanium Co-Pilot Knife.
- The low-profile, quick-release Thumbs Up Sheath™ stashes fixed blades away securely and releases with a one-handed flick of the thumb.
- The sheath attaches firmly to a PFD lash stab; lanyard attachment point on the knife handle further safeguards against losing a blade in rough waters.
- Lanyard attachment point at the tip of the handle gives boaters the option to further safeguard against losing the knife in rough waters when attached to the lash tab.
- Features an oxygen tank valve wrench in the center of the handle.
- The partially serrated edge covers all your cutting needs. The 'reverse scallop' serrations facilitate severing tough fibers.
- An asymmetrical handle and blade, along with the blunt tip, ensure proper blade orientation and help to prevent injury in a tight rescue situation.
- Jimping along the top of the blade edge delivers secure thumb placement and prevents grip slippage.
- Glass-reinforced polypropylene handle features a rubber overlay for a comfortable grip and maximum blade control in wet environments.

Love the knife, hate the sheath. Go back to the old version. This one wears out too fast.

Insecure release mechanism
Compared to the last version of this knife, there are some improvements and one huge downgrade. I like the addition of hard points in the sheath that allow you to attach it securely to the PFD. However, I really do not like the new release mechanism. It feels very loose and insecure, and I imagine that as the plastic becomes softer over time, the knife will fall out of the sheath relatively easily. Definitely miss the old design, it felt much more secure and was not any harder to undo with one hand.

Lash Tab Clip Is Hazardous
Overall an improvement on the previous co-pilot, but not as good as the now discontinued Neko. The biggest issue is the sheath. The thumb-lift/lock mechanism is ok, but it does mean the initial grip on the knife handle isn't as secure as it could be when removing the knife. That alone wouldn't be too bad but the design of the lash tab clip is very problematic.
The lash tab clip opens downward, i.e. towards the sheath opening. This means that when inserting the knife into the sheath the blade frequently gets caught between the clip and the outside of the sheath rather than inside the sheath. This is annoying at best and hazardous at worst. If the lash tab clip were oriented upward--like on previous NRS sheath designs, then the issue would be eliminated.
