Excellent Reference, but Maps need work.
After moving to Oregon about 6 months ago (for better paddling!), this book has become my number one best reference tool. It is invaluable if you are looking to explore the rivers of the area. It does a great job of explaining the runs, and covers everything from Class 1 to Class 5. There is a new edition coming out soon, which will likely fix minor outdated information found here and there (and hopefully some of the typos, which are somewhat plentiful).
My only real complaint is the lack of overview maps. You get small or medium size maps for different sections, but you don't ever get a large map to use as a reference. Some of the rivers will have a map of just that one river. The result is that I often have to look up a nearby city in google maps to figure out where the river/run is. The book is divided into regions, but different rivers in a region can be hours away from one another, so this is often not enough. A big improvement would be if each of the nine regions began with a map of that entire region, with numbers on the map to represent the different runs in that section of the book.

Broad but lacks detail
While it covers a lot of rivers, the river details are not quite sufficient to really be relied upon as a mile by mile river guide. Also, I found that some of the directions for put ins and take outs were inaccurate. A bit disappointed I must say.
